Garmin may be known mostly for GPS navigation devices, but the company also has a stable of lifestyle products like fitness-tracking watches, high-definition action cameras and cycling power meters. At CES this week, Garmin is taking the wraps off its latest fitness device, the Vivofit fitness band—taking on the likes of FitbitJawbone, and Nike FuelBand.

The slickly styled Vivofit looks like a cross between the Fitbit Force and Nike FuelBand. The device offers a large display that shows your daily fitness goals, progress, and timely reminders to get moving. When it's not screaming at you to get off your butt, the device can also display the time. Vivofit is water resistant up to 164 feet deep and features a replaceable battery that is supposed to last for more than a year.

Garmin says that what sets the Vivofit apart is that it can learn a person's activity level and then assign daily fitness goals based on that data. As you hit or miss your Vivofit goals, the band adjusts accordingly.

Cubicle dwellers who switch between sitting and standing all day can also use Vivofit to remember when it's time to dump the chair. Vivofit displays a red bar after an hour of sloth and gets longer the more time you remain in your chair. Getting up and moving reduces the red bar.
