If 2013 felt like the Year of Miley Cyrus, well, it wasn't—at least according to Facebook. The social network released its end-of-year recap on Monday, and Pope Francis and the Super Bowl topped the list of most-discussed topics in the world and in the U.S., respectively. There's always next year, Miley.

The pop star was the No. 7 most talked about topic globally, but didn't even crack the top 10 in America. Nelson Mandela's passing last week catapulted the South African icon to the top 10 abroad and here at home. The government shutdown, Boston Marathon bombing, George Zimmerman, and the Royal Baby were among the hottest topics in America this year, according to Facebook.

Pope Francis captured the world's attention, according to Facebook.

The network obviously collects a lot of data, but the most-discussed topics might not be an accurate reflection of what was actually popular in 2013. "Get Lucky" by Daft Punk was the most popular song in America, according to Spotify plays on Facebook, but Spotify's actual most-played song of the year was "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons.
