Well, that was fast. Just days after Amazon and GameStop announced $10 upgrade deals for Xbox 360 to Xbox One games, the first signs of similar deals for PlayStation fans appeared on Wednesday. Activision says that just like on the Xbox, Call of Duty: Ghosts fans can purchase the PlayStation 3 version ($60 at retail) and then upgrade the game to PlayStation 4 for $10 down the line.
Activision didn't specifically say you had to trade in your PS3 copy, but that seems likely given how the Xbox upgrades are working. All told, it will cost $70 to play the new Call of Duty release on both consoles.
Activision didn't provide any specific details about how long you'll be able to upgrade, but we're guessing it will be available through the end of the year, similar to the Xbox deal. The game maker also didn't mention if the deal would apply to specific retailers, but again it seems likely the PS3 to PS4 upgrade will be in partnership with a retailer like Amazon or GameStop.
Call of Duty: Ghosts is slated for release on November 5, just 10 days before the PlayStation 4 rolls out on November 15. That's not much time to wait if you really want to experience this game on the PS4. But Activision's deal is good news for anyone hoping to finish the game in record time after its release, or who plans on waiting a little while for the hype to die down before grabbing the new console.
