Google has sent out invites for a mystery press event next week, just in time for the rumored launch of a new Nexus 7 tablet.
The invitation for July 24 is billed as a "breakfast with Sundar Pichai," who became Google's head of Android in March. Pichai also is still in charge of Chrome and apps.
Although Google gave no indication of what the event is about, it's likely that the company will announce a new Nexus 7 tablet at the event. A July launch for the tablet has been rumored since April, when Reuters reported that Asus would once again be Google's manufacturing partner, and that Qualcomm's Snapdragon processors would be featured. The two companies reportedly hope to sell more than 8 million of the tablets this year.
Specs for the tablet could include a 7-inch screen with a display resolution of 1920 by 1200 pixels (or possibly 1920 by 1080 pixels), a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 5-megapixel rear camera. We may also see wireless charging and a narrower bezel than the current Nexus 7.
