The rumors and leaks are getting hotter as Android fans are getting antsy in their seats, waiting for the official announcement of the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4.

Next week's Google Launchpad conference apparently has developers buzzing about a surprise launch. While the rumor might seem a bit far-fetched to be true, there is some anecdotal evidence to support it.

A Google employee snaps a photo with the purported Nexus 5, which we hope to see announced next week.

First off, last year's Nexus 4 was announced by way of a surprise event hosted by Google in late October. Second, since the Google Launchpad event is a boot-camp of sorts geared toward start-ups, it's a great launching pad for the device and the new iteration of Android. Third, we're already aware that Android Kit Kat is coming, so it seems like only a matter of time until it's officially revealed. And lastly, the Nexus 4 is completely sold out, which hopefully means that Google is just making room in its proverbial stock warehouse for a new device.

No rumor is substantiated until we hear it directly from Google. For now, we'll continue to watch the Official Android Blog with bated breath, refreshing it every minute until Google finally reveals what the Android-using Internet has been long ruminating about.
