AT&T's contract-free Aio service is now available nationwide, following a number of test market rollouts.
There are a limited number of Aio retail locations, however the service will now be available to anyone via the service's website. The Aio service runs on top of AT&T's national wireless infrastructure.
Aio is geared towards "value-conscious" customers with a very T-Mobile-like offering of prepaid no-contract plans. It's a similarity that has not been overlooked by T-Mobile.
Aio's plans are indeed similar to T-Mobile's no-contract Simple Choice plans, which have helped the upstart carrier make a mark in the mobile landscape. According to T-Mobile's company's last published quarterly report, the company added 678,000 net new customers following the rollout of its "Un-carrier" strategy. This marks the company's strongest growth in four years.
