Acclaimed German documentarian and filmmaker Werner Herzog has teamed up with AT&T to create a haunting poetic anti texting-and-driving PSA aimed at high school kids.
The 35-minute documentary is part of AT&T's It Can Wait campaign and will be distributed to more than 40,000 high schools in time for the school year.
From One Second To The Next is not intended to be easy viewing, in fact it—successfully—attempts to be an emotional punch to the gut. The film features unflinching interviews with not only the victims, but family members, police, and perpetrators recounting horrible accidents (as well as the aftermath) in silent stony detail.
The 70-year-old director may seem an odd choice for a problem that is so associated with youth culture. While he says that he is doesn't participate in texting while driving—or even in texting—he saw that "there's something going on in civilization which is coming with great vehemence at us."
