We were somewhat impressed with Samsung's annoyingly named Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition tablet. However, customers who were weighing the prospect of purchasing this tablet versus the many other options out there may be swayed by Samsung's offer of $600 worth of perks when you purchase a $550 device.

Of course, the deal isn't quite as good as it seems—they never are. Most of those perks consist of temporary trial memberships that you will need to pay for should you choose to continue with them beyond the trial period.

Users who purchase the 10.1 will receive (in descending order of coolness as decided by me):

  • 50GB of Dropbox Space
  • a $25 Google Play Store Credit
  • three free audiobooks from Audible (new users)
  • a one-year subscription to NYTimes.com and its app (new users)
  • a one-year BusinessWeek+ subscription (new users)
  • three digital magazines from Zinio (for new users)
  • three months of Sirius XM (new users)
  • a three-month Hulu Plus Trial
  • one year of Boingo WiFi
  • a $50 Samsung Hub Credit

If you were never going to use some of these services, and you are disciplined enough to set a reminder to yourself to cancel your subscription before you are charged, this may well be worth it.
