LG hasn't given up on the ultra-wide smartphone, as its new Vu 3 handset sports a 4:3 aspect ratio.
The LG Vu 3 has an almost square-shaped look, with a 5.2-inch, 1280-by-960 resolution display. Although Apple has popularized 4:3 aspect ratio on its iPad tablets, the wider screen is practically unheard of among smartphones.
Aside from the funky display, the Vu 3's specs look similar to those of LG's flagship G2 phone. There's a 2.26 GHz Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor under the hood, a 13-megapixel camera in back and a 2-megapixel camera up front. Android 4.2.2 is on board, along with LG's usual software tweaks. LG is also throwing in a stylus, which slides into a slot on the Vu 3's bottom side.
This is LG's third attempt at an ultra-wide smartphone, but while the original Vu was eventually picked up by Verizon and sold as the LG Intuition, the Vu II was a minor update and wasn't sold in the United States.
