It's always a feel-good story when something from Kickstarter makes its way into a brick and mortar store, and even better when it's in multiple stores. AT&T announced that it will carry the Pebble smart watch, with an official launch date slated for Friday, September 27.
AT&T calls itself the "exclusive carrier" of the watch, which has been available in Best Buy for months, and of course can be ordered on Amazon or the Pebble site. The carrier isn't even offering a special edition, or special colors, or exclusive accessories. The Pebble watch will go up against Samsung's Galaxy Gear when it debuts next week, and unlike Samsung's offering, the Pebble is compatible with both iOS and Android devices.
It's a smart move on Pebble's part to get the device in a setting where an employee can sell it as an add-on to a smartphone, but it begs the question of whether or not Pebble's exclusivity contracts with big box retailers like AT&T and Best Buy will actually help it gain traction among consumers.
There is no AT&T website set up for the Pebble smart watch just yet, but it'll likely go live at the end of this week.
