Well, we've got a ship date. According to a blog post, Nvidia's portable gaming system Shield is finally "in full production" and will begin shipping on July 31.
Shield was originally supposed to begin shipping to consumers at the end of June, but postponed the ship date due to mechanical issues. As the company put it: "Last month, we made the difficult decision to delay the launch of Shield due to a mechanical issue we found in our rigorous testing process. Since then we have been working non-stop to put Shield through its paces and ensure it meets the highest quality control standards in the industry."
There have been several bumps along the road in the run-up to Shield's launch. The portable Android-based gaming system was originally set to ship with an imposing $350 price tag, however the company slashed the price to $300 after receiving feedback from users when the device was unveiled to users at the recent E3 game expo.
Shield is available for preorder now. If you didn't make it to E3 and want to get your hands on Shield before shelling out the $300, you can try the device in person at GameStop and Microcenters.
