The Twitterfication of Facebook, which began with verified accounts and hashtags, continues apace: The network Wednesday introduced embedded posts so users can share public updates on third-party blogs and sites.
Facebook is first partnering with news organizations before expanding the functionality to all sites. You'll soon see embedded posts on CNN, Huffington Post, Mashable, People, and Bleacher Report.
Trying to embed a post right now won't work for you unless you're one of the news partners Facebook chose as its beta testers. The company didn't indicate exactly when embedded posts will roll out for everyone, just that availability is "coming soon."
Twitter didn't invent embedded posts, obviously, but tweets—and later Vines—have become ubiquitous because they're so easily shareable in places other than Twitter. Instagram two weeks ago added embed codes, so the Facebook feature was a natural progression.
